Mecklenburg County Public Health has announced Amanda Rogers from Myers Park High School as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) School Nurse of the Year for 2025. The award was presented during a surprise ceremony on May 7, coinciding with National School Nurse Day. Myers Park High School is one of North Carolina’s largest schools, serving around 3,300 students.
School Health Director Tiffany Brown praised Rogers for her dedication: “We are grateful for Nurse Rogers who always provides exceptional and compassionate care to every student at Myers Park High School, regardless of their background or circumstances.” She added her thanks for Rogers’ commitment to the program.
The county partners with CMS to deliver nursing services across all district schools. These services include health assessments, direct nursing care, medication administration oversight, emergency care, and support for health promotion initiatives.
Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington also commended Rogers: “I’d like to extend my heartfelt congrats and thanks to Nurse Rogers on this amazing accomplishment! We are so grateful for all of our school health nurses on the frontlines of protecting and promoting physical and mental health of our students, making learning possible.”
Rogers expressed satisfaction in transitioning from emergency healthcare to school health, emphasizing her role in helping students develop lifelong healthy habits.
Finalists for the 2024-2025 CMS School Nurse of the Year included Julie Chasnis from Smithfield Elementary, Cynthia Wiley from Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, and Denise Imhoff from Oaklawn Language Academy K-8 School.
