Canadian-based AVL Manufacturing has announced plans to open its first U.S.-based mobile machine manufacturing plant in Charlotte, North Carolina. The new facility is expected to create over 325 jobs and involve an investment of more than $56 million in the Steele Creek area.

“After considering many markets, we are thrilled that AVL’s entrance into the U.S. market is in Charlotte, a vibrant, tech-forward city perfect for us to lay down roots,” said Vince Dicristofaro, president of AVL. “We didn’t just choose a location; we chose a community. Charlotte’s spirit of collaboration and its talented workforce made it the clear choice for our American-based home.”

AVL USA, Inc., established by Hamilton, Ontario-headquartered AVL Manufacturing, will focus on producing custom industrial enclosures for large format standby power generators. These products are crucial for backup power at data centers and have applications across various sectors including automotive and emergency management.

Governor Josh Stein highlighted North Carolina’s appeal to advanced manufacturing companies like AVL Manufacturing: “With the largest manufacturing workforce in the southeast and excellent community colleges, North Carolina is home to the resources that world-class companies depend on.”

The planned 232,000-square-foot facility will be located at 13006 Sam Neely Road. Jobs offered will include positions such as production workers, electricians, service technicians, and management roles with an average salary of $76,052.

This project involved collaboration between several entities including Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, the North Carolina Department of Commerce among others.

Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell commented on Mecklenburg County’s prominence in advanced manufacturing: “Mecklenburg County continues to stand out in the advanced manufacturing sector.”

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles welcomed AVL Manufacturing’s decision: “Companies like AVL Manufacturing are a clear sign that our local economy is not just strong — it’s getting stronger every day.”

In recent months, economic development projects involving relocations and expansions have been supported by both the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. This includes contributions from companies such as groninger USA and RXO. With AVL Manufacturing’s announcement today, these efforts have resulted in over $153 million in capital investment and 835 new jobs.
