The Carolina Panthers announced that quarterback Bryce Young will not play in Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills due to an ankle injury sustained during last week’s victory over the New York Jets. Young was listed as doubtful earlier in the week and is among seven inactive players for this matchup.
Andy Dalton will start at quarterback, with Hendon Hooker, who was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday, serving as backup.
Other Panthers players ruled inactive for the game include wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, running back DeeJay Dallas, offensive lineman Nick Samac, tight end James Mitchell, and defensive tackles Cam Jackson and Jaden Crumedy.
Left guard Damien Lewis returns to action after missing last week’s game. Before his absence, Lewis had started every game this season. The offensive line will feature a combination of Ikem Ekwonu, Damien Lewis, Cade Mays, Brady Christensen, and Taylor Moton—a lineup previously used only once this season in Week 5 against Miami.
For the Bills, their inactive list includes wide receiver Joshua Palmer, cornerback Brandon Codrington, linebacker Matt Milano, offensive lineman Chase Lundt, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, and defensive end Landon Jackson.
“We’ll have two quarterbacks active today,” a team spokesperson said. “But neither of them will be Bryce Young.”
