Charlotte FC secured a place in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 after defeating Charlotte Independence 6-0 on Apr. 16.
The match was notable for its high scoring, as six different players contributed goals for Charlotte FC. The team led by only one goal at halftime but took full control in the second half following an early red card to the Independence goalkeeper.
Archie Goodwin opened the scoring just before halftime, assisted by Rodolfo Aloko. In the second half, Henry Kessler scored his first goal for the first team with a header from Andrew Privett’s corner kick. Nimfasha Berchimas extended the lead to three with a goal set up by Aloko and celebrated with a backflip during his first team debut. David Schnegg added another from a free kick, while Kerwin Vargas and Baye Coulibaly completed the scoreline late in the game.
