Charlotte FC faced a challenging match in New Jersey, conceding four goals against the New York Red Bulls. The game began with Wiktor Bogacz scoring for the Red Bulls in the 14th minute, sneaking a ball past Charlotte’s goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina. Charlotte responded quickly, equalizing 12 minutes later through Kerwin Vargas after a series of fortunate events involving Patrick Agyemang.

However, just three minutes later, the Red Bulls regained their lead from a corner kick. At halftime, Charlotte needed to find new energy as New York settled into a defensive stance. Despite efforts by Wilfried Zaha and others to create opportunities in the second half, they struggled to break through.

New York made strategic substitutions in the 64th minute with Eric Choupo-Moting and Cameron Harper entering the field. Choupo-Moting earned a penalty six minutes later following an incident with Andrew Privett inside the box. After VAR review confirmed the decision, Choupo-Moting scored, making it 3-1.

Charlotte substitute Liel Abada reignited hope by scoring on a rebound effort from Tyger Smalls in the 76th minute, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Although Charlotte controlled much of possession afterward and sought an equalizer, their efforts were thwarted.

In stoppage time, Harper drew another foul leading to Choupo-Moting’s second penalty goal of the night, concluding the match at 4-2. The loss highlighted Charlotte’s ongoing challenge of securing points on away games as they prepare for their next opportunity against Toronto.
