Charlotte FC is set to face D.C. United in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup on May 21, following their victory over North Carolina FC in extra time during the Round of 32. The match will take place in Washington, D.C., and will be streamed live on Paramount+.

The U.S. Soccer Federation has released details for the Round of 16 schedule, which will occur on May 20 and May 21. This stage features eight fixtures, with seven involving Major League Soccer (MLS) teams. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC remains the only team from a lower division, representing USL Championship in a match against Philadelphia Union.

The draw for this round grouped teams into four-team groups to avoid league conflicts and ensure adequate rest between matches. The tournament follows a single-game knockout format and is open to both professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, now in its 110th edition, has been crowning national champions since 1914. It was renamed in honor of soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt in 1999. The winner of the current tournament will secure a spot in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) is the defending champion after defeating Sporting Kansas City last year to claim their first title.
