Kerwin Vargas scored the decisive goal as Charlotte FC climbed to fourth place in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference. The team defeated the New York Red Bulls, securing a 1-0 win and their seventh consecutive victory. This result also marked Charlotte’s fourth straight match without conceding a goal.
The only goal came in the 30th minute after Idan Toklomati and Vargas capitalized on a turnover. Vargas finished into the top netting, giving Charlotte the lead they would maintain for the rest of the match. With this assist, Toklomati extended his streak to five straight MLS matches with a goal contribution and now has 11 total contributions this season.
Charlotte’s defense continued its strong run, having not allowed a goal since facing Atlanta United on July 19. However, defender Harry Toffolo left the game before halftime due to injury.
Late in the match, forward Archie Goodwin made his debut for Charlotte FC by substituting in for Toklomati during stoppage time.
With seven consecutive wins, Charlotte is tied for the second-longest regular-season winning streak in MLS since 2000. The club is now two victories away from matching Seattle Sounders’ nine-game streak set in 2018.
The latest victory also set a new record for most home wins at Bank of America Stadium—referred to as “The Fortress”—in one season for Charlotte FC.
Looking ahead, Charlotte will play against New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, August 30. After that match, they will have an international break weekend.
