Charlotte FC is gearing up for a series of away games, starting with a match against Sporting Kansas City. The team aims to strengthen its defense and improve its performance on the road after losing points in the 98th minute to Philadelphia Union, the leaders of the Eastern Conference, on June 14.

Despite this setback, Charlotte’s defensive play has shown improvement, and Designated Player Wilfried Zaha is finding his form at a crucial time. The team’s strategy includes capitalizing on Zaha’s versatility and movement on the field. His recent performances have been notable, contributing six goals (three goals and three assists) in the last eight matches, including four contributions in the last four games.

Zaha’s ability to navigate both wings and central positions has created more scoring opportunities for his teammates. This has resulted in Charlotte FC scoring in eight consecutive matches, with four of those featuring multiple goals.

Sporting Kansas City presents a challenging opponent at Children’s Mercy Park under interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin. Despite their position at 13th in the Western Conference, they have proven difficult to defeat at home with a record of two wins, two draws, and one loss. They have scored in all five home matches under Zavagnin’s leadership.

Charlotte FC managed a clean sheet against Toronto recently but struggled defensively against Philadelphia. The return of Souleyman Doumbia to left back may provide more stability for Charlotte’s defense as they aim for consistency after using 11 different backline pairings before facing Philadelphia.
