A hat trick by Idan Toklomati and a clean sheet from Kristijan Kahlina led Charlotte FC to a 3-0 victory over Inter Miami CF at Bank of America Stadium. The win ties Charlotte FC with the longest winning streak in Major League Soccer’s post-shootout era.
The match saw Lionel Messi draw a penalty for Inter Miami midway through the first half, but Kahlina saved Messi’s attempt after a VAR review. Shortly after, Toklomati scored for Charlotte FC. He added two more goals—one early in the second half with assists from Wilfried Zaha and Brandt Bronico, and another from the penalty spot after Zaha was fouled by Sergio Busquets.
Toklomati now leads his team with 11 goals this season. Kahlina’s performance brought his total to double-digit clean sheets, nearing his previous season’s record of 12.
Charlotte FC has outscored opponents 17-4 during their nine-game winning streak. This match marked Messi’s second appearance at Bank of America Stadium; Inter Miami has failed to score in both visits.
With this result, Charlotte FC holds third place in the standings and could secure a playoff spot if New York Red Bulls lose or draw their next match. The team will seek a record tenth consecutive win when they play New York City FC on September 20.
