Charlotte FC has announced the transfer of forward Iuri Tavares to NK Varaždin, a Croatian First Division team. The move includes a sell-on clause, allowing Charlotte FC to retain 20% of any future sale of Tavares.
“Iuri came to Charlotte and believed in the vision of our player pathway joining Crown Legacy during the first season,” stated General Manager Zoran Krneta. “He showed he belonged at the first team level and was a great professional both on and off the pitch. At this point in his career, a move for consistent playing time is important and we wish Iuri all the best in his career.”
Tavares initially joined Crown Legacy FC as its first permanent transfer before the Club’s inaugural season. In his debut year, he participated in 27 matches during both regular season and playoffs, scoring 12 goals with four assists. His debut against New York Red Bulls II saw him secure a brace.
His performance led to a First Team contract before the 2024 campaign. Tavares played in 32 matches across all competitions for Charlotte FC, making his MLS debut on February 24 against NYCFC. He scored his first goal for CLTFC in a draw with Vancouver Whitecaps on March 2, ending that season with three goals and one assist.
In 2025, Tavares has appeared in seven matches across all competitions.
