Chuba Hubbard demonstrated his versatility during the final day of Carolina Panthers training camp, showcasing both his speed and decision-making skills in a pair of notable plays.
During the first play of the last move-the-ball drill, Hubbard took a handoff and moved off right tackle. He made his way through defenders before sprinting down the right sideline. Teammates Jimmy Horn Jr. and Raheem Blackshear ran alongside him, encouraging him as he neared the end zone. Despite cornerback Mike Jackson making an attempt to catch up from across the field, Hubbard crossed into the end zone before Jackson could reach him.
On the following play, Hubbard again received a handoff but bounced out to the left side of the field. Defensive lineman Derrick Brown was waiting for him. Rather than challenging Brown directly—a player listed at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds—Hubbard paused briefly before choosing to avoid contact by quickly cutting away and heading down the opposite sideline.
Midway through practice, Hubbard also led his offensive teammates in a quick sprint after expressing dissatisfaction with their performance at that moment. His actions in practice reflect qualities that contributed to his surpassing 1,000 rushing yards last season and earning a long-term contract with Carolina.
“It’s the biggest blessing I’ve gotten,” Hubbard said Saturday during the preseason game against the Texans, regarding his new contract and support from his team.
“All I can say is thank you to God and, honestly, the Carolina Panthers as well for believing in me. This is where it started for me, so to be able to continue to be here and be on the up and up, it feels good.”
