Parents, guardians, and community members are invited to attend a resource fair at the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center on August 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event aims to connect families with education, health, and nutrition resources available in Mecklenburg County.
The fair will highlight services offered at the center, located at 430 Stitt Road in Charlotte. Attendees will have access to information about employment assistance, veterans services, nutrition programs, health care, housing support, and other community resources.
One focus of the event is the MECK Pre-K program, which provides free high-quality education for eligible four-year-olds. The classrooms are located in licensed child development centers and are staffed by licensed teachers and qualified assistants. “MECK Pre-K is administered by Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and funded by Mecklenburg County.”
Smart Start of Mecklenburg County will also provide information about parenting resources such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and The Basics Mecklenburg, aimed at supporting children from birth to age three.
PNC Bank’s Mobile Learning Truck will be present outside the center with activity stations for children. Food trucks will also be available during the event.
According to recent data, enrollment at Mecklenburg County schools dropped by 0.4% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). Despite this decrease, county schools still enrolled a total of 153,537 students during that period (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).
The resource fair offers families an opportunity to learn more about local programs designed to help them succeed.
