Mecklenburg County has announced that its offices and services will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. The closure affects various departments and facilities.
Among the affected are all units of the Department of Social Services (DSS), which include Child, Family, and Adult Services. However, DSS hotlines remain operational around the clock to handle reports of suspected abuse or neglect. For reporting senior or disabled abuse, residents can call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report child abuse, neglect, or human trafficking, the number is 980-31-HELPS (43577).
Other county departments such as Public Health, Elections Office, Tax Collector, County Assessor’s Office, Register of Deeds Office, and Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices will also be closed.
The Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Centers will not operate on July 4. Residents should consult their respective collectors’ websites for details about residential collection services provided by the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County towns.
The Park and Recreation department will have varied closings. All Recreation and Senior Centers as well as Nature Centers will be closed on July 4. Parks and Nature Preserves will remain open while hours for Seasonal Pools, Spraygrounds, and Beach may vary.
CharMeck 311 holiday hours will differ from regular hours. More information is available on their website. During non-business hours, callers can report issues related to water, sewer, storm water, and animals through an automated service that dispatches assistance. Service requests can also be submitted online at any time or through the CLT+ mobile app. For emergencies, residents are advised to call 911.
