Now that July has arrived, the anticipation for the 2025 NFL season is building as teams prepare for training camp. This period offers an opportunity to review offseason changes among opponents, starting with the Dallas Cowboys, who will face the Carolina Panthers in Week 6 on October 12.
Historically, the Panthers have struggled against the Cowboys, trailing in their all-time series 3-12. Last year, despite a strong performance from Bryce Young, who threw for more yards than Cooper Rush, the Panthers lost 30-14 at home. Young’s two interceptions and two fumbles contributed to this defeat.
The Cowboys finished last season with a 7-10 record. Their offense ranked 16th while their defense was placed at 28th. In preparation for this season, they made several personnel changes. Key free agency additions include running backs Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, wide receiver Parris Campbell, and defensive end Dante Fowler. They also traded for wide receiver George Pickens and quarterback Joe Milton.
In addition to player acquisitions, significant coaching changes occurred off the field. Jerry Jones replaced Mike McCarthy with Brian Schottenheimer as head coach. Schottenheimer has been with the Cowboys since 2023 as offensive coordinator before his promotion. Klayton Adams will take over as offensive coordinator after serving as an offensive line coach with the Cardinals last year.
Dak Prescott returns to lead the team after missing much of last season due to hamstring surgery. The Cowboys hope to enhance their passing game by pairing Pickens with Ceedee Lamb following guard Zack Martin’s retirement.
Defensively, retaining players like Dante Fowler aims to bolster support around Micah Parsons. The team’s ability to integrate new talent and adapt under new leadership will be crucial in determining their success this season.
