When Dan Morgan, the general manager of the Carolina Panthers, arrived at the training camp for the 2025 season, he was prepared with a clear vision. He had specific qualities in mind that he wanted his team to demonstrate as they prepared for their first practice.
“As we begin the season, I just wanted to reaffirm our commitment to building a smart, tough, passionate, competitive, resilient, and adaptable team,” Morgan stated. He emphasized discipline and trust in their process while aiming to build a sustainable team over time. “This season, our goals are clear. Improve our consistency. Develop our young core.”
Morgan has been proactive in strengthening the team’s roster during the offseason by adding key players on both sides of the ball. This includes five new starters or contributors on defense and notable draft picks like wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan and pass-rushers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen.
Scourton acknowledged Morgan’s impact by stating, “Going back and watching his tape, man, Dan’s a freak.” Morgan aims to bring stability similar to what he experienced as a player from 2001 to 2007.
He remains cautious about playoff expectations but is confident in the team’s improvement from last year’s performance. “To me, if you’re doing the things that I mentioned… you’ve just got to earn it.”
This year’s approach focuses on stability rather than frequent changes seen last year. The Panthers have retained their offensive line and added backup running back Rico Dowdle without making major transactions.
Morgan explained their strategy: “We’re still going to be aggressive… we’re going to look for any avenue to get better.”
Entering camp with reasonable shape was also part of their plan. Defensive tackle Derrick Brown is cleared for camp after recovering from an injury last year. Punter Sam Martin is dealing with a minor hamstring issue but isn’t expected to be out long.
With these preparations in place, Morgan is ready to see how it all comes together this season.
