Demani Richardson’s performance during a recent practice session for the Carolina Panthers has caught attention, with an interception that underscores his potential for a starting position. The second-year safety demonstrated his ability to track and intercept a pass intended for Hunter Renfrow, drawing praise from the coaching staff.
Panthers coach Dave Canales remarked on Richardson’s skill: “You know, he’s got a knack for the ball,” highlighting the player’s continued development since last year. Canales noted that Richardson made an impressive play on an overthrown pass by Bryce Young during the first training camp practice.
Richardson is competing for a starting role alongside Tre’von Moehrig. His experience includes significant playing time last preseason and being promoted from the practice squad early in the season. He started five games due to injuries among veterans and concluded the season with notable performances, including an interception against the Cardinals.
Canales emphasized Richardson’s communication skills as a key area of growth: “It’s watching him communicate,” he said, adding that his ability to connect with teammates on field calls demonstrates increased comfort within their system.
Cornerback Jaycee Horn also acknowledged Richardson’s progress, attributing it partly to his background at Texas A&M: “Just the communication, playing above the Xs and Os… Demani came out of the SEC, so I expected him to be a high-level player.”
Richardson continues to show promise as he integrates into the team’s dynamics and aims for further improvement.
