Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio was honored with the Vision Award by Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) on April 24. The CCCP praised Diorio as a “bold visionary and a highly effective executive leader,” emphasizing her “unwavering commitment and all-in approach to serving our community.”
Reflecting on the accolade, Diorio shared, “It has been the honor of my life to be Mecklenburg County manager. I am humbled to be included on this list of Vision Award recipients as collectively, they have had a transformational impact on our community.”
Diorio has been serving as County Manager since 2014. Her leadership has been pivotal during several critical events, including a cyber attack, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her initiatives include the launch of MECK PreK in 2019, a preschool program for four-year-olds targeting qualifying families. This program has benefited more than 8,000 children. Additionally, Diorio has worked on projects addressing homelessness, affordable housing, and economic mobility while championing parks, greenways, the main library, and other developments in the city center.
Noteworthy past recipients of the Vision Award include Hugh McColl, Harvey Gantt, Leon and Sandra Levine, Pat Rodgers, Michael Marsicano, and Gene Woods.
