Derrick Brown returned to the field for the Carolina Panthers, bringing with him a renewed sense of enthusiasm following the birth of his daughter. Speaking after a training camp practice, Brown expressed joy over his family’s new addition and shared how it has impacted his perspective.
“Good to be back out here with the guys running around, sweating a little bit. Everybody is healthy and happy. My daughter came into the world the other day, and I’m very excited to have her,” Brown said.
The defensive lineman, who recently became a father for the fourth time, joked about returning to work quickly. “All of them have me wrapped around their fingers. So I mean, I’ve just got to keep working, got to keep making more money,” he laughed.
Brown’s return follows a season-ending injury in Week 1 last year. He spent considerable time at the Panthers’ facilities during recovery and maintained his usual early arrival times. The aim was clear: be ready by training camp.
“I’ve been here every single day this offseason… I’m excited to be back and come out here and get my best foot forward,” he stated.
As Brown continues to recover from knee surgery, he’s taking part in drills alongside rookie pass rushers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen. Despite not being at full speed yet, Brown remains committed to following the trainers’ acclimation plan.
“I don’t know yet,” he said about potentially removing his knee brace during the season. “I wore one in college… I think it’s just comfortability.”
The Panthers defense has undergone changes with additions like Bobby Brown III and Patrick Jones II while releasing linebacker Josey Jewell due to concussion symptoms. Despite these shifts, Brown feels confident in the team’s potential.
“Don’t doubt us, don’t doubt us,” he emphasized. “You got a lot of hungry people out here… inside the building, everybody believes.”
With preseason games approaching soon, Derrick Brown balances time between family life and integrating back into an evolving defense lineup.
