A program aimed at assisting homeowners with rising home costs is set to return on July 1. The Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) initiative offers economic assistance grants of up to $650 for eligible residents in Mecklenburg County. Additionally, those living in the Town of Davidson may qualify for an extra grant amounting to $534.
Eligibility criteria include having lived in the home for a minimum of three years, meeting specific household income levels, and having no more than one delinquent tax bill over the past three years. There are no age restrictions, and applicants whose mortgage companies handle their taxes via escrow can still apply.
Applicants will need to provide 2024 income verification documents such as W-2, W-4, 1099, and SSI forms during the application process. The application form will be available on MeckNC.gov/4HOMES starting July 1 and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds run out. Applications can be submitted online, by email, mail, or in person at a Community Resource Center. The deadline for submission is November 21.
For further details about the program, individuals can visit MeckNC.gov/4HOMES, send an email to [email protected], or call 980-314-4663.
