Mecklenburg County will observe the Juneteenth holiday by closing its offices and services on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The closures affect several departments and facilities, including all units of the Department of Social Services (DSS), the Department of Community Resources, the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center, and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center.
The Public Health department, Elections Office, Tax Office, Register of Deeds Office, and Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices will also be closed. Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Centers will not operate on June 19.
Park and Recreation facilities have varying schedules: All recreation and senior centers as well as nature centers will be closed for the holiday. However, parks and nature preserves will remain open. Seasonal pools, spraygrounds, and beaches will have variable hours.
“DSS: The Department of Social Services hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect,” according to county officials. For reporting abuse or neglect involving seniors or disabled individuals, residents can call 704-336-CARE (2273). Reports concerning children should be directed to 980-31-HELPS (43577).
Solid waste collection services provided by the City of Charlotte or other towns in Mecklenburg County may vary; residents are advised to consult their local collectors’ websites for specifics.
CharMeck 311’s holiday hours also differ from usual business hours. Residents are encouraged to visit their website for detailed information.
