Mecklenburg County will close its offices and services on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day. The closure affects several departments and facilities.
The affected units include the Department of Social Services (DSS), which covers Child, Family, and Adult Services; the Department of Community Resources; the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center; and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center. Other closed offices are Public Health, Elections Office, Tax Collector, County Assessor’s Office, Register of Deeds Office, and Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices.
Solid Waste Centers operated by Mecklenburg County will also be closed for the holiday. Residents are advised that “the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County towns may provide residential collection service. Residents should check their respective collectors’ websites for details.”
Park and Recreation facility hours will vary. All recreation and senior centers as well as nature centers will be closed. Parks and nature preserves remain open. Seasonal pools, spraygrounds, and Ramsey Creek Beach have varying hours on Labor Day, which is their last day of operation for outdoor amenities this season.
Despite DSS office closures, hotline services for reporting suspected abuse or neglect continue to operate around the clock: “The Department of Social Services hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. To report abuse of seniors or the disabled, call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-31-HELPS (43577).”
CharMeck 311’s holiday hours differ from regular business times. According to county officials: “CharMeck 311 holiday hours vary. Check the website for more information. Outside regular business hours, CharMeck 311 callers can report water, sewer, storm water and animal issues via an automated service that dispatches assistance.” Residents can also submit service requests online at any time or use the CLT+ mobile app for access to city services.
For emergencies during the holiday period residents should call 911.
