Mecklenburg County has announced that its offices and services will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
The closures affect all units of the Department of Social Services (DSS), including Child, Family, and Adult Services. The Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center will also be closed. Other affected departments include Public Health, Elections Office, Tax Collector, County Assessor’s Office, Register of Deeds Office, and Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices.
Solid Waste Centers operated by Mecklenburg County will not be open on Veterans Day. However, residential collection service may still be provided by the City of Charlotte or other Mecklenburg County towns. Residents are advised to check their respective collectors’ websites for more information.
Park and Recreation facilities have varying schedules for the holiday. All recreation and senior centers as well as nature centers will be closed on November 11. Parks and nature preserves remain open to the public, while seasonal pools, spraygrounds, and beaches are already closed for the season.
The Department of Social Services hotlines remain available 24 hours a day throughout the week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. For reports involving seniors or disabled individuals, residents can call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking involving children, the number is 980-31-HELPS (43577).
CharMeck 311’s holiday hours vary; details are available on its website. Outside regular business hours, CharMeck 311 callers can use an automated service to report water, sewer, storm water or animal issues that require assistance. Service requests can also be submitted online at any time or through the CLT+ mobile app. In emergencies residents should call 911.
