Suzette Rhee Nedrich has been appointed as the director of the Public Information Department in Mecklenburg County. She has served as a public information officer for the county since 2022.
The Public Information Department is tasked with disseminating news and information about county initiatives, policies, programs, services, and activities of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. The department aims to enhance transparency and civic engagement through various communication channels.
Nedrich has built a reputation for excellent service to both internal and external clients during her three years with Mecklenburg County. Her teamwork across departments and contributions to special projects have been noted.
Before joining Mecklenburg County, Nedrich worked extensively in local television as a reporter and anchor in North Carolina and Virginia. She also held roles such as executive producer in public television and anchor for the City of Charlotte’s GOV Channel. Additionally, she anchored segments on Meck TV’s “What’s Trending.” Her work has earned her several awards including Television Reporter of the Year by the Virginia Associated Press, multiple RTNDA awards, and an Emmy for a program on school gun violence titled “Generation Under Fire.”
In addition to her media career, Nedrich has experience in corporate communications within the private sector. She has also provided media training for executives and contributors in public and nonprofit sectors.
“Telling the story of Mecklenburg County is the most important job we do,” said Nedrich. “Our role is to share critical information with the residents of Mecklenburg County, foster community engagement, and ensure those residents know what they’re getting for their tax dollars. We do that by telling the big and small stories, working with the County’s more than 6,000 employees, and serving our many community partners transparently and responsively.”
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Nedrich immigrated to the United States at age nine. She grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia, and attended Radford University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications with a concentration in Journalism.
