Mecklenburg County Solid Waste has expanded its recycling program at Compost Central in Charlotte to accept gently used medical equipment. Residents can now drop off items such as scooters, manual wheelchairs, shower chairs, and walkers at the facility located at 140 Valleydale Road.

This expansion aims to assist residents in decluttering their homes while helping community members with medical needs. Mecklenburg County has collaborated with AssistMe, a local nonprofit organization that focuses on collecting, cleaning, and donating medical equipment to uninsured or underinsured patients in the area.

Medical equipment is the latest addition to the list of accepted items in the enhanced recycling offerings in Mecklenburg County. The program also accepts white rigid foam, books, shredded paper, textiles, food waste, clean wood and furniture, and solar panels.
