Mecklenburg County has sent out its 2025 property tax bills for real property, individual personal property, and business personal property as of July 29. Taxpayers are required to pay these bills by January 5, 2026, to avoid interest charges. The bills are due starting September 1, 2025.
This year, about 458,000 tax bills were mailed across the county. For properties with tax records or values currently under appeal, those bills will be sent at a later date.
Payments made on or after January 6, 2026, will incur a 2% interest charge for January. After that, an additional interest of 0.75% will be added each month until the bill is paid in full. Taxpayers who anticipate difficulty paying their bill are encouraged to contact the Office of the Tax Collector early rather than waiting until December or after the bill becomes delinquent.
For homeowners with mortgage escrow accounts, real property tax bills are sent directly to mortgage holders for payment. Owners receive a notification from the Office of the Tax Collector regarding their property taxes.
Payment options include online payments at MeckNC.gov/PayTax using credit card, debit card, or e-check; phone payments by calling toll-free 1-800-994-1026 (available in English and Spanish); mailing a check using the return envelope provided; or paying in person at the Valerie C. Woodard Center in Charlotte between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Payments can also be attempted through an online banking bill pay system; however, this method is not recommended due to possible delays and complications if incorrect information is entered.
A convenience fee applies when paying by credit or debit card through electronic means; there is no fee for e-check payments.
The County continues its partnership with the Town of Davidson on the Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) program. This initiative provides grant funding to qualifying homeowners to help address rising home costs. Eligible Mecklenburg County residents may receive up to $650 toward their tax bill, while Davidson residents may qualify for an additional $534 in assistance. More details are available at MeckNC.gov/4Homes.
