Mecklenburg County has once again achieved the highest recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada announced in June 2025 that it awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Mecklenburg County. This award was given for the County’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2024.

The Annual Comprehensive Financial Report is prepared by the Mecklenburg County Financial Services Department each fiscal year. This report communicates the financial health of the county and ensures compliance with State of North Carolina requirements.

Award judges noted that the FY2024 report shows a “spirit of full disclosure,” effectively communicating Mecklenburg County’s financial story and encouraging potential users to read it.

“This award recognizes Mecklenburg County’s dedication to remaining transparent about the stewardship of our resources,” said David Boyd, chief financial officer for Mecklenburg County. “My thanks go to our County leaders and the Financial Services team for their hard work in creating this report and making it a success.”

Public access to past financial and credit rating reports is available at FIN.MeckNC.gov.
