Mecklenburg County Solid Waste has been acknowledged by Charlotte Water for its efforts in pollution prevention at the Foxhole landfill. During Charlotte Water’s annual awards banquet, the team received its first Crown Award for overall excellence in managing a large-scale industrial discharge system. Additionally, they earned a Platinum Award for maintaining 100 percent compliance in preventing discharges to the sewer system from the Foxhole Landfill over five consecutive years.

The Foxhole landfill primarily serves business and commercial disposal needs. These recent recognitions add to Mecklenburg County Solid Waste’s accolades, including an NCDEQ award and the opening of a new materials recycling facility.

Solid Waste and Recycling operates under the Land Use and Environmental Services Agency. The division manages solid waste processing across the county, oversees full-service drop-off centers, and conducts outreach programs aimed at sustainability and waste reduction for residential areas, businesses, and schools.
