Mecklenburg’s MECK Pre-K hits record enrollment for 2025-2026

As of July 2, MECK Pre-K has registered over 1,830 children for the upcoming school year, marking a record enrollment since its inception in 2018. MECK Pre-K is a free program in Mecklenburg County offering high-quality pre-kindergarten education to all four-year-olds at no cost to families.

Families still have time and space to enroll their children in MECK Pre-K, with opportunities available regardless of income. This year, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners approved funding for ten new classrooms. The primary expansion focuses on the northern, southern, and southwestern areas of the county.

MECK Pre-K provides engaging learning experiences and nurturing environments aimed at preparing children for academic and social success. It is open to all four-year-old children by August 31, 2025, in Mecklenburg County.
