Michael Griswold has been appointed as the new director of the Office of Strategy and Innovation (OSI) for Mecklenburg County. Griswold, who has been with the county since 2014, previously served as deputy director of the office since 2022. His career includes roles such as business manager for the Department of Human Resources and management analyst.
The OSI is tasked with managing strategic business planning, leading operational and organizational performance management processes, and conducting annual evaluations. The office oversees projects like the Employee Climate Survey, Community Survey, Community Pulse Report, and Annual Corporate Performance Report.
County Manager Dena R. Diorio commented on Griswold’s appointment: “Throughout his career, Michael has been a results-driven professional providing strategic guidance, data analysis and reporting, research, and evaluation.” She added that his commitment to performance excellence and customer service stands out.
Griswold holds academic qualifications from Clemson University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has completed additional training through institutions like the UNC School of Government and Central Piedmont Community College. Furthermore, he is a certified change management practitioner.
Discussing his new role, Griswold stated: “Innovation within government isn’t about disruption for its own sake—it’s about designing smarter systems that solve problems.” He expressed enthusiasm for working on strategies to better serve Mecklenburg County residents.
