Mint Hill Police Department announced on April 13 the arrest of Luis Marcano-Marcano, a Venezuelan national identified as a known member of the Tren de Aragua gang, following an incident in which his pregnant wife accidentally shot herself, resulting in the death of their unborn child.
The case has drawn attention due to both the circumstances surrounding the shooting and Marcano-Marcano’s reported gang affiliation. Authorities placed him under an immigration detainer after charging him with discharging a firearm within city limits. The incident occurred at the couple’s home in Mint Hill after a birthday party that continued into the early morning hours when officers were notified by hospital staff of the woman arriving with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The case involved an immigration detainer placed on the suspect as authorities reviewed his status, according to <a href="https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/crime/man-arrested-mint-hill-woman-shoots-self-kills-unborn-child-immigration-detainer/275-d5b10210-ae99-4247-a527-b1cc32b83d10″>WCNC Charlotte.
