The Carolina Panthers have made several roster changes ahead of their upcoming game, including activating offensive lineman Chandler Zavala from injured reserve. Zavala, who had been sidelined with a knee injury since Week 4, returned to practice this week and was moved to the 53-man roster on Saturday.
Zavala had initially stepped into the starting right guard position after Robert Hunt suffered a torn biceps in Week 2 and was placed on injured reserve. Now, Zavala may return to that role as Brady Christensen, who replaced him at right guard, has also been placed on injured reserve due to a torn Achilles.
To accommodate Zavala’s activation, the Panthers released veteran running back and special teamer DeeJay Dallas. Dallas began the season on the practice squad and played in several games when Chuba Hubbard was unavailable but has not been active for the past two weeks.
Additionally, outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon was elevated from the practice squad using a standard elevation. This move comes as Princely Umanmielen is out with an ankle injury. The team also recently signed outside linebacker Trevis Gipson to provide more depth behind starters D.J. Wonnum and Nic Scourton.
Moon, 27 years old and originally an undrafted free agent from Florida, has previously played in 21 games with two starts during his stints with both the Ravens and Steelers.
