The Carolina Panthers have added two players to their roster after claiming them off waivers on Wednesday. The team picked up cornerback Damarri Mathis, previously with the Denver Broncos, and wide receiver Dalevon Campbell, who was most recently with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mathis entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 from Pitt. He has played in 43 games and started 18 times during his career. Notably, 11 of those starts came during his rookie season with the Broncos under then-defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, who now holds the same position with the Panthers.
Campbell joins as an undrafted rookie from South Carolina. During preseason play for the Chargers this summer, he caught seven passes for 135 yards, averaging 19.3 yards per reception. Campbell’s college career included three years at Illinois and two at Nevada before transferring to South Carolina for his final season, where he made 12 catches for 312 yards—an average of 26 yards per catch. At his pro day for South Carolina’s Gamecocks, Campbell measured at 6-foot-4 and weighed 205 pounds; he ran a 4.42-second time in the 40-yard dash.
Last year, the Panthers claimed six players off waivers on the first day they were eligible due to holding the top spot in claim order. None of those players remain on this year’s roster, though three were released during Tuesday’s cuts to reach the initial limit of 53 players.
