The 2025 NFL draft is fast approaching, with teams preparing by updating their boards and evaluating their rosters. The Carolina Panthers hold nine picks, which include the 8th overall pick in the first round. The team has been assessing potential draft needs, focusing on the safety position.

Panthers currently have Demani Richardson, Nick Scott, and Tre’von Moehrig in their ranks. However, with just one safety initially under contract, there is room for improvement through the draft.

A number of prospects are being considered for different safety roles:

– Nick Emmanwori from South Carolina had 88 tackles and four interceptions last season. He showed impressive athletic capabilities at the Combine and is notable for his 6’3″, 227-pound frame, making him a potential prospect for the first day of the draft.

– Malaki Starks from Georgia, identified by Pro Football Focus as the top-rated safety, had 77 tackles and one interception last season. He stands at 6’1″, 205 pounds, and brings a strong pedigree from Georgia.

– Xavier Watts of Notre Dame is recognized for his ball-hawking abilities, with 13 interceptions over the past two seasons and 83 tackles last year.

– Kevin Winston from Penn State, although limited by a knee injury in 2024, offers good length and physicality, mainly excelling in tight end coverage.

– Andrew Mukuba, who transferred to Texas for his final year, is celebrated for interception skills, having gathered five in the past season.

– Sebastian Castro from Iowa led the Hawkeyes with three interceptions and eight pass break-ups in 2023. He also focused heavily on run defense during 2024.

– Malachi Moore of Alabama, known for his smart play and special teams experience, had 70 tackles and two interceptions last season, despite dealing with a sports hernia.

– Caleb Ransaw from Tulane displays speed and tackling proficiency but might best fit a more specialized role due to low ball production.

This array of prospects demonstrates the breadth of talent available for the Panthers as they look to bolster their safety options in the 2025 draft. The choices made could significantly shape their defensive strategy.
