The Carolina Panthers secured a 30-27 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in Atlanta. Quarterback Bryce Young set both a career and franchise record by throwing for 448 yards, despite briefly leaving the game with an ankle injury in the first quarter. He returned to play without missing a snap.
This win improves the Panthers’ season record to 6-5 and marks their first sweep of the Falcons since 2013, only the fourth such occurrence in team history. The game ended with Young connecting with Tommy Tremble for a 54-yard catch-and-run in overtime, setting up kicker Ryan Fitzgerald for a decisive 28-yard field goal—his third walk-off kick this season.
Young’s performance was notable as he overcame early adversity after appearing to trip over right guard Chandler Zavala and being sacked on a crucial fourth-and-1 play late in regulation. Despite these setbacks, he led a final drive that included a touchdown pass to Tetairoa McMillan and a successful two-point conversion to Jalen Coker.
The Falcons responded with backup quarterback Kirk Cousins, filling in for injured starter Michael Penix Jr., leading them to tie the game with a field goal from former Panthers kicker Zane Gonzalez. However, the Panthers prevailed in overtime.
Throughout the game, Young demonstrated resilience, declining assistance after his injury and returning quickly to action. “He hit Tetairoa McMillan for the go-ahead touchdown and Jalen Coker for the two-point conversion.”
Wide receiver Drake London contributed five catches for 108 yards for Atlanta, while Bijan Robinson rushed for 93 yards by halftime as the Falcons built an early lead. The Panthers narrowed that gap before halftime and continued their comeback into the second half.
With this win and Tampa Bay’s loss to Buffalo, Carolina is now just half a game behind in the NFC South standings.
