The 2025 NFL draft approaches, and teams are deep in preparations, evaluating prospects for their rosters. Among those looking to fortify their line-up are the Carolina Panthers. With nine selections in hand, including the No. 8 overall pick in the first round, the team is focused on bolstering their defensive front with edge rushers.

The Panthers, who added D.J. Wonnum to their lineup midway through last season, saw improvements alongside Jadeveon Clowney. Despite signing Patrick Jones II from the Vikings in free agency, the team seeks further enhancement in their defense. The upcoming draft offers a pool of talented edge rushers.

One notable prospect is Abdul Carter from Penn State. At a recent combine, Carter expressed confidence, stating, “I feel like I’m the best player in the country and the best player should be selected No. 1.” Carter, who transitioned to the edge position last season, recorded impressive statistics, leading the FBS with 23.5 tackles for loss and ranking seventh with 12 sacks.

Jalon Walker from Georgia is another contender. Walker’s versatility is highlighted by his experience as both a linebacker and edge rusher. His football intelligence, stemming from his background as the son of a coach, makes him a potential asset for teams looking for a strategic player.

Donovan Ezeiruaku of Boston College stands out despite being undersized for his position. His agility and wingspan helped him achieve 16.5 sacks, the second-most in the FBS, along with 80 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Georgia’s Mykel Williams enters the draft with expectations. Although sharing playing time in a talented Georgia defense, Williams possesses notable physical attributes, including a significant wingspan, and has demonstrated his prowess on the field.

James Pearce Jr. from Tennessee also impresses with his explosive performance as a pass rusher, showcasing a two-year lead in tackles for loss on his team. However, his off-field issues may influence team decisions.

Shemar Stewart from Texas A&M presents a conundrum. With remarkable athletic measurements but only 4.5 sacks during his college career, the potential for growth and development remains significant if provided the right coaching.

Mike Green from Marshall, with a standout performance last season, led the FBS with 17 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss, though his past legal issues present potential challenges.

Nic Scourton of Texas A&M showed growth after transferring from Purdue. He led his team with 14 tackles for loss and demonstrated potential with his varied defensive skills.

Each of these prospects brings unique strengths and possible concerns, providing the Panthers with both potential opportunities and risks in the upcoming draft.
