The Carolina Panthers lost to the Seattle Seahawks 27-10 on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The defeat brings the Panthers’ record to 8-8 for the season.
Despite the loss, the Panthers remain in contention for the NFC South title, which will be decided next week when they face Tampa Bay. The team had previously beaten Tampa Bay 23-20 at home.
The game was marked by strong defensive efforts from the Panthers. Mike Jackson intercepted Sam Darnold in the end zone, and Nic Scourton forced a fumble with a sack. In the first half, Carolina’s defense limited Seattle—currently ranked seventh in total offense—to just 122 yards, with both teams tied at 3-3.
However, turnovers proved costly for Carolina. A fumble by Chuba Hubbard and an interception thrown by Bryce Young in the first quarter led directly to two Seahawks touchdowns.
Bryce Young later ran for a 10-yard touchdown after leading a 13-play, 69-yard drive early in the fourth quarter, narrowing Seattle’s lead to 17-10. Still, it was a difficult day for Carolina’s passing offense; Young threw for only 54 yards and the team converted just one of eleven third downs.
Seattle responded with a long field goal drive led by Darnold that lasted over eight minutes and was extended by a facemask penalty on Jaycee Horn during third-and-21. This made it a two-score game late in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers will have another opportunity to secure their playoff spot next week at Raymond James Stadium against Tampa Bay.
