The Carolina Panthers will start their training camp without three key players. Tight end Tommy Tremble and wide receiver Dan Chisena have been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list, while punter Sam Martin is on the active/non-football injury list. These players can be activated from their respective lists at any time during the camp.
Tommy Tremble underwent back surgery in May and is expected to begin rehabilitation during the camp. The 25-year-old tight end recently signed a two-year contract and achieved a career-high of 234 receiving yards last season, despite playing only 12 games. He also caught a memorable touchdown pass from Bryce Young in Atlanta.
Dan Chisena, known for his special teams play, joined the Panthers’ practice squad last October and was promoted to the active roster in December. Since entering the league in 2020, he has played with several teams including the Vikings, Steelers, Cardinals, and Ravens.
Sam Martin was brought in as a free agent to replace Johnny Hekker, who signed with Tennessee. Martin, an Appalachian State All-American and former fifth-round pick, spent three seasons with the Bills after playing for the Broncos and Lions.
Veterans are scheduled to report to training camp on Tuesday, with practice set to begin Wednesday morning.
