The Carolina Panthers are preparing to face the Green Bay Packers, currently the top team in the NFC, as they look to recover from a recent loss to the Buffalo Bills. The matchup at Lambeau Field is seen as an opportunity for Carolina to regain momentum in the second half of their season.

“In my mind, it’s still early, it’s still early,” said cornerback Jaycee Horn. “We got good teams coming up on the schedule, we’re going to have to earn every win we get, so I’m not really thinking about it as us in a hunt or anything like that. I think we’re only in Week 9, so we’ve still got some good football teams we’re playing.”

A key focus for the Panthers will be their running back rotation. Head coach Dave Canales has noted Rico Dowdle’s strong performance recently, with Dowdle accumulating over 600 rushing yards and maintaining a high average per carry despite fewer opportunities in recent games. Dowdle remains measured about his success.

“I definitely think too much,” Dowdle said when asked if there was excessive attention on sharing carries with Chuba Hubbard. “Because we got two great backs, (we) didn’t go out there and execute at a high level, so I definitely think too much is being made of it. Either one of us will go out there and make plays and help the team win.

“I think I had a good couple of games, but I know I take it, each game is each game…I wouldn’t really say that I’m on the roll as far, but I have had a couple good games.”

Canales declined to reveal details about Sunday’s running back strategy: “We had a lot of conversations, and we’ll roll that out on Sunday,” he said. “I don’t want to give any tips or tells about what we’re doing, but trust both guys to do it…”

The Packers enter with one of the league’s best run defenses—third overall—allowing just 78.9 rushing yards per game. However, this will be only their second matchup against a top-10 rushing offense this season; most previous opponents have ranked lower in rushing production.

On defense, Carolina aims to rebound after allowing significant yardage against Buffalo’s James Cook III last week—a performance that dropped them from eighth to sixteenth in run defense rankings and increased their average allowed per game.

“We certainly didn’t do a good enough job of coaching, of playing,” defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero stated. “…they certainly got the ball on the edge a good amount of times and we just didn’t do a good enough job…I’ve got to be better our staff’s got to be better our players have got to be better…”

Green Bay’s ground attack features Josh Jacobs and Emmanuel Wilson; Jacobs averages nearly 64 yards per game while Wilson emerged with notable production last week after limited use earlier this season.

“He’s a patient running back. He reads it well…” said defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson regarding Jacobs’ style.

Quarterback Jordan Love also presents challenges both passing and scrambling; he leads all quarterbacks with positive EPA against blitzes this year and has shown efficiency avoiding sacks while producing touchdowns.

“He’s being smart with the ball,” linebacker Christian Rozeboom observed. “He’s getting it to his playmakers…getting them down as soon as we can will be huge…”

Love often connects with tight end Tucker Kraft who ranks fifth among NFL players for yards after catch—a factor Panther defenders are preparing for closely.

“You just got to lock in on him,” corner Mike Jackson said about Kraft’s impact.

Quarterback Bryce Young returns for Carolina after missing last week due to injury. Coach Canales expressed confidence: Young looked “Better and better, handled the week really well.”

Young acknowledged frustration watching last week’s loss from sidelines: “Yeah, of course no one felt great about last week…But again page is turned for all of us…”

Statistically Young has improved under pressure this season by releasing passes more quickly than before—helping limit sack rates below league averages through eight weeks.

The Panthers’ offensive line faces another test against Micah Parsons—a standout pass rusher whose presence requires special attention according to both coaches and players alike.

“You got to be aware of where he’s at,” Canales noted regarding Parsons’ versatility along Green Bay’s front seven.

Receiver Tetairoa McMillan added: “You got to account for him every single play…the receivers…gotta speed up our time…”

Ultimately success may depend on collective awareness across offense: “You have things to consider with your protection…he’s a fantastic player…” concluded Canales.
