The Carolina Panthers have made roster changes ahead of their upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons, adding linebacker Krys Barnes and safety Israel Mukuamu from the practice squad. The move comes as starting inside linebacker Trevin Wallace and rookie safety Lathan Ransom have been ruled out due to injuries.
According to the team, “The team activated linebacker Krys Barnes and safety Israel Mukuamu from the practice squad by standard elevation.” Both players are expected to contribute on special teams in addition to providing depth on defense.
This marks Barnes’ second activation this season. NFL rules allow a player to be elevated from the practice squad up to three times per year before they must be added permanently to the active roster for further appearances. Barnes previously played in 69 games with 30 starts during his career, including time with both the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals.
Mukuamu, who played college football at the University of South Carolina, is making his first appearance for Carolina after four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He has appeared in 50 games with three starts over his NFL career.
The Panthers’ adjustments aim to address gaps left by injured starters as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup against Atlanta.
