The Carolina Panthers have brought back linebacker Jacoby Windmon to their practice squad, aiming to strengthen the position amid ongoing injuries.
Windmon, who is 24 years old, previously played for the Panthers both on the active roster and practice squad last season. He appeared in eight games, starting twice, and recorded 22 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two quarterback hits, and two passes defensed during that time.
He was released during this year’s final roster cuts and later spent several weeks with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad in October.
Windmon played college football at Michigan State and UNLV. During his time at UNLV, he worked with Pete Hansen, who is now the Panthers linebackers coach.
The decision to add Windmon comes as the Panthers are facing a shortage of healthy linebackers. Christian Rozeboom and Trevin Wallace are currently dealing with injuries. In last Sunday’s win over the Falcons, Claudin Cherelus and Maema Njongmeta finished the game on the field at linebacker.
