The Panthers have come to an agreement with Hunter Renfrow, a veteran wide receiver and a former standout at Clemson University. The deal comes in the wake of the recent draft and adds another experienced option to the Panthers’ receiving corps.
Renfrow, at 29 years old, did not participate in the league last year. However, he has a successful history of production from the slot position. His notable performance with the Raiders in 2021 included 103 receptions, totaling 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns. These numbers marked a peak following his prior seasons in 2019 and 2020, where he amassed a combined total of 105 catches.
Throughout five NFL seasons, Renfrow has recorded 269 catches for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns. His NFL entry was as a fifth-round draft choice from Clemson, having made a significant impact at the college level. Notably, he scored the game-winning touchdown in Clemson’s 2017 National Championship Game victory over Alabama. His college career also included two touchdown receptions in the 2016 championship game against Alabama, though in a losing effort.
Renfrow was also part of Clemson’s 2018 title-winning team and secured the Burlsworth Trophy that year, which is awarded to the best college player who began as a walk-on.
In joining the Panthers, Renfrow will line up alongside Adam Thielen, known for his rise as an undrafted wideout, as well as Jalen Coker, a second-year player who was not selected in the draft last year, and first-round picks Xavier Legette and Tetairoa McMillan.
