Mecklenburg County officials have announced the temporary closure of Ramsey Creek Beach from August 8 to August 10 after routine water quality checks by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services found elevated bacteria levels. The rise in bacteria is believed to be linked to recent heavy rainfall.

Retesting of the water will occur on Monday, August 11. Updates about the status of the beach will be available on Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s social media channels and its website at ParkandRec.MeckNC.gov.

While swimming at Ramsey Creek Beach is not permitted during this period, Ramsey Creek Park at 18441 Nantz Rd. in Cornelius remains open for visitors.

In related county news, enrollment in Mecklenburg County schools dropped by 0.4% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, with a total student population of 153,537 reported for that period according to https://www.dpi.nc.gov/.
