Jimmy Horn Jr., a rookie wide receiver, is now with the Carolina Panthers, a team he believes he was destined to join. Growing up in Sanford, Florida, Horn showcased his athletic abilities from an early age. “I was just always different,” he stated.
Despite facing challenges during high school, including an injury that left him without college offers initially, Horn persevered. His determination paid off when Seminole High School won the 8A Florida State Finals and college offers began pouring in. He chose to attend the University of South Florida on a full scholarship.
Horn later transferred to Colorado under Deion Sanders’ guidance and became known for his speed and agility alongside Travis Hunter in the Buffaloes’ offense. This led to his selection as a sixth-round pick by the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
Horn’s desire to play for the Panthers stems from a visit before the draft where he felt an immediate connection with the team. “Manifestation,” Horn explained about predicting he’d be in Charlotte.
The competition within the Panthers’ wide receiver room is intense, as noted by head coach Dave Canales during minicamp. “Special teams is going to be such a huge piece of that puzzle,” Canales said regarding what might set receivers apart.
For Horn, making it to the NFL was one part of his journey; staying there requires hard work and adaptability. As he focuses on contributing meaningfully to his new team, Horn emphasizes putting in consistent effort on and off the field: “The main thing I want to know is that I put in at work.”
