The following day, on September 8, 2025, Tillis commented on criminal justice issues in American cities. On September 9, 2025, Tillis reiterated his stance regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin and the conflict in Ukraine: “Putin is a thug and a murderer.

America needs to make sure that his illegal invasion of Ukraine fails.”

Senator Tillis has been an active figure in national politics for over a decade. He was first elected to the Senate in 2014 after defeating Kay Hagan by a narrow margin of 48.8% to 47.3%.
