On July 14, 2025, Senator Tillis expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s policy toward Ukraine, stating, “I applaud President Trump for his decision to send more weapons to Ukraine. Putin is a lying murderer who doesn’t want peace. Putin only understands strength, and pushing for more weapons and sanctions is the key to ending this unjust invasion.”
Two days later, on July 16, 2025, Tillis commented on the passing of a prominent figure in North Carolina’s agricultural sector: “Susan and I are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend Johnny Barnes. Johnny was a respected leader within NC’s ag community and helped promote the sweet potato industry to new heights, unlike anything seen before. We extend our deepest condolences to NC Sen.” Johnny Barnes was known for his leadership in agriculture and efforts to elevate North Carolina’s sweet potato industry.
On July 17, 2025, Senator Tillis discussed concerns regarding the Federal Reserve’s independence amid reports about potential changes in its leadership: “The independence of the Fed is paramount. Terminating Chairman Powell risks a protracted legal battle with potential economic consequences like the disruptions we briefly saw in U.S. Treasury and dollar markets yesterday. These impacts will only threaten the foundation for” The senator’s remarks come at a time when financial markets have shown sensitivity to uncertainty around Federal Reserve leadership.
