Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg is set to launch a new campaign on June 25, aimed at making solar energy and battery power more affordable and accessible in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. This community-based initiative focuses on group purchasing, where savings increase with the number of participants buying solar systems or batteries.
The program aims to reduce costs through bulk buying, using vetted materials, pricing, and contractors selected via competitive bidding. It also emphasizes community engagement and promoting favorable solar policies. Interested property owners can register in advance without obligation to learn more about the campaign.
A public launch event will take place on June 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Innovation Barn in Charlotte. Attendees will receive information on reducing energy expenses and increasing savings through renewable energy systems. The event will feature community leaders, representatives from the coalition behind Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and insights from experts on solar energy benefits.
The campaign is a collaboration between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Town of Davidson, and Centralina Regional Council. Erin Stanforth, sustainability manager for Mecklenburg County, noted that “it was an easy decision to bring a Solarize campaign to Mecklenburg County” due to local interest in group solar purchasing.
Free enrollment for the campaign runs until October 31. Residential contracts must be signed by December 31, while commercial contracts have a deadline of March 31, 2026. Installations are expected to conclude by April 15, 2026.
