Mecklenburg County has experienced a rise in COVID-19 cases, forcing the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office to make drastic changes to combat the rising numbers.
According to the Mecklenburg government news website, a stay-at-home order has been issued starting March 26 and will run for 21 days until Thursday, April 16.
To reduce numbers of new COVID-19 infections, Mecklenburg County Manager Dena Diorio issued this order while attending the Board of County Commissioners Budget and Public Policy meeting.
People seeking medical attention, shopping, or exercising outdoors will be exempted from this order.
With non-essential traveling temporarily banned under the order, the movement will still be allowed for essential workers such as law enforcement, hospital, and medical staff, firefighters, food store employees, and government employees.
The move comes as Mecklenburg County registered a higher number of coronavirus cases in North Carolina compared to other counties within its borders.
