Eighteen companies have plans to expand or relocate to the Charlotte region with some already helping to add more than 800 jobs and increase capital investments for the region during the first quarter of 2020.
Companies adding new jobs to the region include Glatfelter paper manufacturing company, General Motors, and steel manufacturer Optimized Armor, the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance reported in early May.
Glatfelter's plans include moving its Pennsylvania-based headquarters to Charlotte, which will add 50 jobs, the publication reported, with General Motors planning a research and development facility that coincides with the Charlotte area's racing industry.
“We’re thrilled to expand GM’s U.S. footprint by establishing a greater presence in Charlotte, a community that has become a racing and engineering mecca,” Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports, told Charlotte Regional Business Alliance. “This will allow for improved collaboration as well as access to some of the industry’s best talent.”
Optimized Armor is planning to invest $4 million with the building of a U.S. operation in Rock Hill, South Carolina and the creation of 100 jobs, the publication said.
