Chiquitha Lloyd, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) director of diversity and inclusion, recently told the Board of Education that the district had contributed approximately $134.6 million to the gross domestic product with its Supplier Diversity Program.
Lloyd's report to the board covered the contributions that CMS makes as a driver for minority, women and small business enterprises (MWSBE) in the Charlotte metro area, the school district said in a Sept. 22 release.
The program employed an estimated 855 workers in 2019-2020, with those employees earning nearly $61.5 million during that time.
Additionally, approximately 50% of total committed spending thus far on the district's 2017 bond initiative has been with minority, women and small business enterprise partners, according to the release.
"Our commitment to working with minority, women and small businesses contributes to the growth and development of diverse communities," Lloyd told the school board. "We've made significant progress in many areas and remain focused on creating opportunities with an inclusive mindset."
