A Charlotte startup company, CliniSpan Health, has been given an award from NC IDEA Foundation, the nonprofit said in an October release.
CliniSpan is one of 16 startup businesses that received a share of $160,000 from NC IDEA MICRO's latest grant cycle, the foundation said in the release. The individual grants are approximately $10,000.
CliniSpan provides pharmacies, nonprofits, and diverse communities with clinical trials, according to its website. It also helps fund nonprofits.
"Spanning cleantech to consumer products to medical devices and software, this group is a great representation of the diverse economic potential of the state," NC IDEA President and CEO Thom Ruhe said in the foundation's release.
The $160,000 in grants went to startups in various towns throughout the state. Since the program started in 2018, NC IDEA has awarded $770,000 to 77 startups.
The foundation said in the release that 161 companies applied for the award and went through a rigorous application process that spanned three months.
"For many of these young companies, it is their first external validation that they are pursuing something that can become a great company, and it is very rewarding for us to help them on that journey," Ruhe said in the release.
